Ride to Remember 2023

Yes it was a ride to remember. Did the Metric Century Plus which included the 62 miles for the metric century, or 100 kilometers, and they added another loop at the end to add 16 miles for a fantastic day at 78 miles. Over 300 participated for a variety of ride lengths and I saw bib number 8089 which meant there were at lest 89 doing the full ride. The festivities began with the Seminole Police Office color guard, a speech from the mayor, police chief, and a prominent member of the City of Sanford. Four rest stops were within the route along with an array of sights, including Mr. Roboto…all we needed was to hear that song done by Styx in the background! The finish line couldn’t come fast enough as about eight miles out it started to rain. I waited a bit for the major downpour to finish, so I thought, then figured I was already wet so just move on. But about a mile out it rained cats and dogs and every other farm animal you can name. After completing the wash and rinse cycle the last 5 miles gave way to a sunny dry cycle such that when I got to the end I was pretty much dry. But wait….where was everyone! I completed my fastest time averaging 15 mph for 5 1/2 hours but I was slow compared to the vast gathering of fast riders, half my age, averaging around 20 mph. Doesn’t matter as I’m in this for the ride and adventure….and this ride definitely did not disappoint! Yup, a ride to remember.
